Course Information

DAA is a distance education program, offered jointly by the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore and the International Asthma Services (IAS), a registered charitable institution in Colorado, USA. It was conceived with a vision to train qualified specialists in both theoretical and practical aspects of the practice of Allergy, Asthma and clinical Immunology. We believe the training would equip the trainees with the necessary skills to confidently manage allergic diseases within their specialities. Specialists in TB & Chest/Respiratory medicine, Paediatrics, General Medicine, and ENT are eligible to apply.

International and National faculty will provide 4 one-week long Personal Contact Session (PCS) in CMC, Vellore, Tamil Nadu. During PCS, training occurs through practical hands-on learning, case discussions and didactic lectures. The candidates are expected to refer to additional materials as required and complete the assignments. Between the PCS programmes, lectures and case discussions will occur through our E-learning platform. There will be an exit exam at the end of the course and the successful candidates will be awarded the diploma.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential Qualifications:

  • DM/ MD/ DNB in Pulmonary medicine, Respiratory medicine, or TB & Chest medicine
  • MD/DNB in Paediatrics
  • MD/DNB in General medicine
  • MS in ENT

Course Structure

  • Mode: Distance education with four Personal Contact Sessions (PCS) of one week each, held at CMC, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India
  • Curriculum: A blend of theoretical modules, clinical exposure, and practical hands-on training in clinical evaluation, diagnostic techniques and management.
  • Learning Materials: Core reference materials, including a textbook, handouts, and basic allergy prick testing kit for training.
  • Faculty: A group of distinguished national and international faculty

Upon successful completion, a Certificate of Proficiency will be jointly awarded by CMC Vellore and the IAS, USA.

  • In the event of an unpredictable situation like the COVID-19 pandemic, if travel to attend is impossible, risky or if government regulations preclude gathering, we shall conduct the session on a suitable web platform.
  • This course is not recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), India. It is intended solely for knowledge enhancement and to hone clinical skills and should not be used for claiming professional appointments or promotions.
